Home Grown Revolution

There’s a line in a Modest Mouse song that is something like ” I sound the same when I’m happy and I’m sad” that’s always really resonated with me. I just watched Home Grown Revolution and cried with joy. I would love to meet this family. The one thing I noticed was that they do wrap their veggies in plastic, but it’s not a criticism at all because they are doing so many amazing things. I can’t express my excitement. Just watch or go to the website. Oh I love these people! WHEEEEEEE!

  1. yeah, I’ve been a fan for awhile. They’re So Awesome!

I am envious of their lengthy growing season, too. Someday I’ll have my own garden. Someday I’ll have my own homestead.

    Someday, you will, too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Yes, I will and it will be beside yours! That’s not supposed to be a threat btw;)

  3. Hi! I just stumbled across your blog (great resource!) and was delighted to see your review of our little slapped-together youtube piece, Homegrown Revolution. Thanks for the great comment! The plastic are those corn-based baggies / clamshells. We used to deliver in reusable rubbermaids but the chefs seemed to mysteriously destroy them so we just migrated to corn-based plastics and did some educating along the way.

    Congratulations on your project!

  4. Oh now I’m embarrassed. I really think you guys are doing an awesome job. When we were doing our project, people picked apart little things, like using the fan to dry bags and I didn’t mean to do that back.
    Thanks for the compliments.

  6. Don’t be embarrassed! I knew you meant no criticism and was totally fine with it. Your comment wasn’t made to be critical and I sensed that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Nonetheless, it’s essential for all of us to be aware of everything and even nitpick little things in order to make a difference in our lives. So, please… continue to be aware of things like that! It’s what will help all of us make changes.

But yeah… I hear you on the people who pick apart everything you do… that is just not constructive at all. There are some people who do it to just tear people down – and that is just so wrong.

It’s great looking around your blog. Keep up the good work and keep working toward your garden!

  7. WOW, I’ve been amazed with this farm too!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    What a miracle you’ve created!!

About corn-based plastics etc. Maybe you could team up with some schools for future chefs (or Jamie Oliver? or his equivalent?) to educate the chefs better?

Also, am thinking a discount for reusable might be good? (At least for those who would be okay with it?)
& maybe a special badge for the restaurants using them? (also team up with a PR/organization heavily promoting this?)

I’d LOVE to go to a restaurant that is BOTH organic *AND* zero waste!!! /sigh/
